hosted by Thanet District Council

SeaArt exhibition

Saturday 4 August to Monday 27 August

Community Pharmacy Gallery, 16 Market Place, Old Town, Margate and various Thanet venues

This summer 2007 SeaART exhibition and workshops were a collaboration between the Thanet Coast Project, lead artist Ruth Cutler, the Community Pharmacy Gallery with support from the Stronger Safer Communities Fund and Thanet District Council.

Contemporary artwork showcased local artists along with photographic work for SeaART 2007 - all inspired or influenced by the sea or coastal environment.  Submissions of new exhibits of visual artwork or installations, and photographs for the suggested photoSeaART themes of nature of our coast, human impact, & textures & light were welcomed.

SeaART2007 included various children art workshops at the Community Pharmacy Gallery throughout August, and at Ramsgate’s Eastcliff Bandstand events.  PhotoSeaART exhibitions with further exhibits at the Old Lifeboat House, Broadstairs Harbour and Cliftonville Library’s exhibition room.

Background information:

SeaART 2007 makes connections between people and the coastscape in North East Kent, with the help of local artists and enthusiasts.  SeaART 2007 is co-ordinated by the Thanet Coast Project a non-profit initiative set up to help raise awareness of the North East Kent’s important marine and coastal environment and wildlife.

The exhibition, ‘SeaART2007’ is our area’s contribution towards ‘Marine Week’ - a national celebration of our seas and wildlife by the Wildlife Trusts and partner organisations, starting from 4 August 2007. This collaboration is the fourth year that the exhibition has taken place and is coordinated by the Thanet Coast Project with lead artist Ruth Cutler working with the Community Pharmacy Gallery.  The exhibition will be accompanied by photographic work at various other venues around Thanet.

A number of related art projects and exhibits include Children Art workshops for children of various ages – from metal sculpture artwork with Ian De Silva, to mosaic and environmental workshops.  These will be advertised and places can be booked on–line in July – see the What’s On section.
