About the Thanet Coast Project

The Thanet Coast Project (TCP) was set up in 2001 as a result of the workshops held with stakeholders to drive forward the priorities which people had identified.

The main remit of the project is to:

  • Raise awareness of the important marine and bird life, and how to avoid damaging them
  • Work with local people to safeguard coastal wildlife and help implement the Management Scheme action
  • Encourage and run wildlife related events and make links with wildlife, green tourism, coast-scape and the arts
  • Be a focal point for enquiries and gathering information on coastal wildlife and environmental issues
  • Keep everyone informed with progress through various means such as Facebook, Twitter, event posters, website and articles.

The project officer reports back actions to the North East Kent Marine Protected Area (NEKMPA) Management Group and was supported by a Memorandum of Agreement between partners, but is currently run through Thanet Council as a ‘not-for-profit’ project.

Please note:

The Thanet Coast Project and its volunteer Coastal Wardens receives no funding through the local authority and is reliant on the generous grants and donations from local businesses and the general public. It you would like to help locally – we would welcome any contributions which can be made through our online donations.

The Thanet Coast Project gratefully acknowledges donations from Haeckels of Margate in 2021, and Southern Water in 2022 and 2023 – along with public and small business donations – to ensure that we can continue our remit and work

We are open to looking for a main donation or contribution from a local business for 2024
